SAM: Security Administration
System
Access Manager (SAM) is a web-based user access controls system that ensures users,
based on their job responsibility, gain access only to those applications required
as part of their job junction. SAM reduces the time and effort required to set up
new employees, change employee security privileges and remove privileges from
terminating employees by automating processes and managing workflow.
SAM focuses on security of patient information by limiting
access to passwords, enforcing authorization requirements and basing security on
job responsibilities. SAM creates security privileges based on pre-defined "clusters"
of applications based on role, department, job code, or project. Systems access is
limited to only those systems a user requires in order to perform their job function.
SAM creates an audit trail of all security administration transactions and generates
security reports. SAM ensures that system access is quickly discontinued when a user
leaves the organization. SAM is a good addition to your HIPAA compliance tool box.
SAM provides for timely setup and maintenance of user access.
SAM can be interfaced with the Human Resources system, so new user accounts are
automatically created, or existing accounts changed or terminated based on job
changes. When new hires attend employee orientation, they receive a printout with
their user account information and are ready to go to work.

SAM improves productivity of systems Administrators, IT Staff
and managers by managing workflow and automating processes. SAM interfaces with
network operating systems to automate security rights to the hospital network.
The user account is automatically set up in the appropriate NT domain, an NT
profile is created, the user home directory is created and the user desktop is
populated with the approved icons. SAM can automatically create access rights
within individual applications such as the lab system and order entry system.
When automation isn't possible or desirable, SAM will manage the workflow to
the system administrator for creation/maintenance of user accounts in those
applications.
